St. Charles Borromeo

St. Charles Borromeo was born into a noble Italian family in 1538 and became a cardinal while still a young man. As Archbishop of Milan, he became one of the leading figures in carrying out the reforms of the Council of Trent, particularly through the education of priests and the renewal of parish life.
Charles was also remembered for remaining with his people during famine and plague, giving generously to those in need and personally caring for the sick. He died in 1584 after a life spent reforming and serving the Church.
