St. Margaret of Scotland

Optional Memorial

St. Margaret of Scotland was born into an English royal family around 1045 and became Queen of Scotland through her marriage to King Malcolm III. Although she lived at the centre of royal life, Margaret became especially known for her prayer, generosity and concern for the poor.

She encouraged education and religious renewal in Scotland, supported churches and monasteries, and personally cared for people in need. Tradition remembers her serving meals to the poor and using her position not simply as a privilege, but as a means of service. She died in 1093 and was later honoured as one of Scotland’s most beloved saints.
