The Memorial of St. Teresa of Jesus honours the Spanish Carmelite reformer, mystic and Doctor of the Church whose writings became enduring works of Catholic spirituality. Born Teresa of Ávila in 1515, she devoted much of her life to the renewal of the Carmelite order and founded numerous reformed monasteries. 

Her writings, including The Way of Perfection and The Interior Castle, reflect a deeply practical understanding of prayer and the spiritual life. She died in 1582 and was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church in 1970.
