The Feast of the Canadian Martyrs honours eight Jesuit missionaries who gave their lives for their faith while serving in New France during the seventeenth century. Among them were St. John de Brébeuf and St. Isaac Jogues, whose missionary work brought them into close contact with Indigenous communities in what is now Canada and the northeastern United States.

Their ministry took place during a period of profound cultural encounter, hardship and conflict. Remembered for their perseverance and devotion, the Canadian Martyrs are among the patron saints of Canada and are commemorated together each year on September 26.
